Avalon Waterways pride themselves on giving you the exceptional service and luxury of small-ship ocean cruising with intimacy, choice and attention to detail.
They host fewer passengers in order to offer a personal, intuitive service, whether its the wine expert who remembers which vintage you enjoyed yesterday, the pillows you prefer on your bed, or the way you like your steak cooked at dinner.

Fabulous five star “small” cruise ships – a deluxe brand of Celebrity Cruises and sister ships to those operated by Oceania. Azamara has only been in operation since 2007 but positive feedback so far. As with all vessels of Azamara’s size you’re able to access ports of call not available to larger ships.
Carnival has 25 ships operating 3 to 16-day voyages to The Bahamas, Caribbean, Mexican Riviera, Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, New England, Bermuda, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. Their newest ship, Carnival Vista, debuted in Spring 2016, while Carnival Horizon is scheduled to enter service in 2018.
They offer a wide array of quality cruises, and pride themselves on delivering memorable vacations to their guests. A Carnival cruise offe...
A range of classes to suit different client’s requirements. It should be noted that Millennium Class ships in our opinion really are a cut above Century Class – they are much newer with better facilities and cabin sizes. In addition although owned by Royal Caribbean, well known for their diverse range of kids facilities, Celebrity Cruises is general rather more adult orientated with less extensive options for children.
Needs little introduction and a Transatlantic crossing should be on everyone’s “must do” list. Cunard reflects cruising of a bygone era and as such is more formal than many of today’s newer cruise lines. Cunard operate a slightly different dining programme, which can sometimes be wrongly interpreted as being a “class system”. As with the custom of ocean liners in the past, each stateroom is matched with a reserved table at a named formal sea-view restaurant. While truly exceptional, your formal sea view restaurant by no means represents the full fabulous extent of dining experiences to which you have access. Additionally the “lead in” stateroom grade is limited to either 1st or 2nd sittings whilst all other grades offer “open” sittings.
A premium cruise line that does tend to attract a slightly more mature passenger (although they do provide a wide variety of youth- and teen- friendly activities and facilities for guests ages 3 to 17). Even though their ships are slightly larger than the Azamara ships and Millennium Class ships of Celebrity their general facilities and level of service are on a par.
Outstanding feedback from past passengers. Hurtigruten operate simply-styled specialist ships - definitely not to be confused with a traditional cruise line. If you’re looking to be entertained or attend a Captains Cocktail Party then Hurtigruten is not for you - occasionally some musical entertainment may be offered on some stretches of the voyage but there is no organised programme. Remember these ships function as working ships calling at ports around the clock. Some noise and vibration can be expected in some cabins during the loading of goods.
MSC Cruises is delighted to provide guests with high-end Italian style. Their ships are refined and welcoming in the best Italian tradition, and using the highest quality materials in their contruction. You''ll quickly notice the elegant decor, the cutting edge design and noble materials, such as marble, Swarovski crystal, walnut, onyx ...
Probably offers the best service for ships of their size in the 4 star plus sector. Particularly suited to all those who dislike formality and the historic set structure of traditional cruising. Perfect for those looking for a relaxed-style without a set regime.
Oceania’s fleet of three small ships is on par with Holland America/Azamara ships and their rich and luxurious décor, reminiscent of a “country manor”. All the benefits of small ship cruising in that the ships itineraries are not limited to large ports of call. Reasonably priced for a specialist small cruise line. Not particularly child friendly.
Aimed very much to cater for the British cruise market – on average around 90% of guests will be British. A good 4 Star contemporary cruise line that has kept up-to-date with cruise innovation, Ideal for those who would rather not fly as the majority of departures set sail from Southampton.
Discover a fleet of 5 vessels which allows for choice. Le Ponant: 32 staterooms, a refined and efficient three-masted sailing yacht; Le Boréal, L’Austral and Le Soléal: three sublime 132 staterooms and suites yachts; and our last vessel, Le Lyrial: fourth sister-ship of 122 staterooms and suites.
PONANT offers to you chic cruising without the crowds: experience the comfort of a private cruise onboard vessels of an intimate size, exclus...
Princess Cruises have been innovative over the years particularly with their new cruise ships. They were the first to offer "Movies Under the Stars", a screen by the pool for movies and concerts. Princess offer several “Specialty Restaurants” for you to choose from on every ship. These distinctive restaurants provide intimate dining in an upscale atmosphere. However, because these restaurants at sea are truly a special treat, a cover charge will apply per person. Very child friendly offering an excellent range of activities for 3-17yr olds.
Slightly larger ships than Silversea but still “small “by comparison to the majority of ships in the traditional cruising market. Excellent service record – whilst occasionally we may hear of a slip in service on some of the other cruise lines, we’ve never heard anything other than excellent comments of Regent Seven Seas. Again all-inclusive (all drinks - up to and including premium brands and gratuities).
A voyage with The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection offers an unprecedented opportunity to be untethered. Here, freedom and flexibility allow immersion in life''s exceptional experiences; exploration of earth''s exquisite and unexpected hideaways; and stirring of passions and curiosities that create new and deepened connections.
All of this delivered in an intimate setting with a heightened level of care and attention. Enlivened and...
Royal Caribbean delivers all that it says and more – the experience is thrilling, it is extraordinary – it’s almost more about being on the ships than it is about visiting the destinations. Four Star plus in terms of accommodation and service but it’s all about the activities and experiences on offer. Ideal for teenagers and children of all ages. Playgroups include Fisher-Price Aqua Babies and Aqua Tots for 6- to 36-month-old’s and there are similar clubs to cater for all ages.

With some of the smallest six star luxury ships (208 guests), Seabourn offer a truly intimate experience – not so much cruising as yachting. All-inclusive (all drinks - up to and including premium brands and gratuities). Similar in concept to Regent Seven Seas and Silversea – their size making for easy access to the smaller ports of call. All suite accommodation but please note balconies which are referred to in the descriptions are “Juliette” balconies that is a very shallow balcony designed only to maximise the view.
SeaDream Yacht Club is different from big ship cruising. Our philosophy of casual perfection runs through everything we do. With only 56 couples being pampered by an award-winning crew of 95, the level of attention and service we pay to each of our guests makes yachting aboard either one of our mega-yachts SeaDream I or SeaDream II feel as if you are on your own private yacht. Be as active or as relaxed as you like and take in the ultimate in luxury, privacy and pamp...

It should be noted there is however a cover charge if you chose to dine in the ship’s speciality restaurant Saletta /Le Champagne. Stylish European décor, all-suite accommodation with only one category “Vista” without balcony’s; some of the largest bedrooms with walk in wardrobes, good size bathrooms with separate bath and shower.
