This was our first river cruise with AMA Waterways. We were sailing with some other good river cruise companies before. We were a party of four, including my wife and friends. We all love good wines. We decided to sail with AMA because our travel advisor recommended AMA Waterways based on our preferences. She was right in the recommendation! It was an outstanding journey from the beginning to the end. AMA Waterways Staff is very competent, starting from the Cruise Manager, Finn, everybody was very professional and friendly. We felt very please and comfortable with the service, the excursions, the dining experience, just to mention a few. We started in Bilbao, then we went to Donostia and finally we get the ship in Bordeaux. The Chateaus and places we visited were amazing! The wine tastings were great. Also, the tour guides were very knowlegable in all single aspects of the excursions. If you are a wine fan, this is a cruise you have to pick. We have decided to sail again with AMA Waterways in the future!
The AmaDolce crew provides A+ service. They are friendly, helpful, and very efficient. They got all the passengers off to the excursions without a hitch. The itinerary is very good with respect to visiting many key locations in Bordeaux. The food on board was mediocre at best. There were a couple of nights where my wife's fish was terrible. Most nights the meat offering was of poor quality. The night before the last night the beef entree was terrific. Reminded me of college when the dining hall would pull out all the stops the day before students went home for vacation. The wines offered were very good and plentiful and the desserts were terrific. The excursions were not exceptional. One of the guides knew very little about the subject matter and just made things up. Other guides were good but the vineyard tastings were mediocre. That's the central point of the trip to taste great wine. That just didn't happen until we went off on our own to a great store with great wines to taste.
AmaDolce has 72 staterooms and suites across seven categories, including a single option. All have climate control, flat-screen TVs, spacious bathrooms, and a desk and chair. Many staterooms feature French balconies — floor-to-ceiling glass doors that open to river views — while larger suites offer more space and added amenities for extra comfort. All are elegantly appointed and designed for relaxation and rejuvenation.

AmaDolce has two dining venues: the Main Restaurant, where menus highlight both international favorites and French regional cuisine, and The Chef’s Table, which offers a multi-course tasting menu in an intimate setting. Between meals, guests can also enjoy tapas and light bites in the Main Lounge. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and other dietary needs are happily accommodated.
