Ship Reviews

The Cruise team are very attentive. On board activities provided a wide range of programs. Restaurants, delicious meals, variety of menus, great team in the restaurants. The 24 hr Cafe is a perfect idea for those of us who just want a quick light snack or espresso or tea. Rooms are perfectly attended too.Thank goodness the TV is limited!!! No need to hear the news! Shore excursion could have been more in-depth-visit more places. Some cafeteria shore restaurants were not interesting. The Terracotta pre-trip was outstanding, good hotel, great guide, good regional restaurants. The weather was cold but I planned for that. All of the guides were well versed on history. One suggestion the Japan segment-it would be helpful if guides gave us "Whispers" ear devices, easier to hear; and to have water on the buses. A perfect trip for a solo traveler. I have travelled on Regent before and will look forward to the next adventure.

Outstanding food and service made this cruise memorable, with a superb staff that consistently went above and beyond. The dining options were excellent, offering great variety and quality throughout the trip. I especially enjoyed the coffee bar, though it unfortunately closed earlier than expected. That said, the room was a major disappointment. Having taken numerous cruises, including several with Regent, I was surprised by how small the newer ship cabins are. It truly felt like a large broom closet—I actually laughed when we first walked in. The bathroom was equally underwhelming and quite cramped. In comparison, I’ve never experienced such tight accommodations on Seabourn or Silversea, and it reminded me of much older ships from my younger cruising days. The tours were well organized and enjoyable, but overall, the room size significantly detracted from an otherwise excellent experience. We have two more cruises booked with regent and we will be ensuring that we get a better room.

Our cabin was spacious, clean and well appointed. The room attendants quickly identified themselves and referred to us both by name throughout the cruise. The bar and restaurant staff were awesome - with a huge shout-out to Cyrel, Mari-Gold who looked after us like royalty and to Donn in the Meridian Lounge who had an encyclopaedic knowledge of the cocktail list and was very obliging and attentive. Some of the entertainment was a bit lame but we do not focus on that as we are adequately entertained elsewhere. Our trivia team were a great mix of skill and talent and we ended up making lasting friendships. A few of the ports were small and remote, so the variety of excursions was sometimes limited. We made do, and absolutely loved the multiple sea days on this voyage. The Cruise Director was conspicuously absent except for a few functions (usually on sea days) and we actually had to ask one guy who he was as he had never been introduced (Asst Cruise Director) to anyone. This was the only area let Regent down conspicuously. Every other department was A+ and deserving of higher merit if possible.

Four of our previous five cruises have been on Regent, but this was our first time on one of the three newer ships. The Explorer, although ten years old, was excellent. But not perfect. The cabin, a regular Serenity one level below Concierge, was terrific. Plenty of space, with the bed looking out over the balcony. The bathroom had two sinks and a tub as well as the shower. The closet was more than adequate, pretty much the same walk-in as in the older ships. The food was good to great. There are three specialty restaurants and all were exceptional, although the Prime 7 restaurant, in which we ate twice, was only so-so the second time. Pacific Rim, in particular, was awesome. The Compass Rose, on the other hand, seemed to have many new people and food only occasionally really good. But it was always above average. The pool grill, however, often had food that I'd call below average. It depended a lot on what you ordered or picked up from the many choices presented. The beer selection was horrible, almost entirely lousy U.S. beers (although they did have Heineken). We ate there often as it was generally the only venue still open after our excursion. The free excursions were OK, something to do and representative of where we were, but very ordinary. We took a couple excursions that we paid $100 - $200 each for and they were better. Still, the excursion generally disappointed. Service varied. Our room service was great. Laundry service was brilliant (and free). Specialty restaurant service was great, Compass Rose service often ordinary. Getting on and off the ship was easy. Getting on and off the ship was easy. The excursion process, where we turned in a card in exchange for a number that would be called, worked fine, but we often sat for twenty to thirty minutes waiting for the number to be called. The original boarding process when we first embarked was exceptionally good, very quick and smooth, and our luggage arrived on time in the room. So: ship was great (not counting the art, which we mostly didn't like), service was generally good, food was OK, excursions were less than OK. Would I take another Regent cruise? I probably will, in part because it's what I know. But I am also researching other lines.
