My wife and I are retired. This was our fist cruise. We decided start with a short 3 day cruise to see how we liked it before we went on a longer cruise. We didn't know what to expect. We chose Royal Carebbean. We were very impressed. The ship was bigger than we imagined. It was a lot to take in for only a 3 night cruise to the Bahamas out of Miami. Left on Friday, returned on Monday. Very quick. We are already planning our next cruise and it will most definitely be a longer cruise. We liked everything except the volume of people. It made it hard to book events on the ship. We booked ahead on the app. We liked our room, Mid ship - small balcony. Deck 7. Quiet enough we did not have any trouble sleeping. We will be going again as soon as possible.
After 4 decades of cruising 20 different ships, we can be picky. Wanting more entertainment and dining options than the small luxury lines but not wanting to give up the luxury and mostly adult experience, a friend recommended booking a Suites Lounge on Royal or Haven on NCL. After combing through many reviews, we picked the Suites Lounge on Royal and so glad we did. The private Concierge and Coastal F&B team reserved for suite guests are superb. The 2 story Crown Loft suite was outstanding. 150 Central Park was our favorite restaurant, but the Steak House and Sports Bar were also very good. The water and ice shows were jaw dropping, and you get front row as a suite guest. The private and early boarding experience combined with the private and early departure benefits were awesome. RCL private island is far better than Disney and the drink package was worth it $. Spa was poor for both service and treatments, but all ships struggle here. Having a very private "luxury" experience on the top two floors and going down for big shows and 20 dining options is the way to cruise these days. A regular room on these mega ships would not work for us and the small luxury ships do not provide better service (or food) than the RCL suites experience...so this is the way we will roll for few years, trying MCR Yacht Club, Celebrity Retreat and NCL Haven next.
