I have now cruised on 3 different carriers and I have to report that Royal Carribean was hands down the best food. First night was a sit down dinner served to our table yet I actually preferred the buffet. Enormous selection for every taste from ribs to roast pork or chicken. The side dishes as well were numerous and delicious. Many desert options were available too. And they weren't just pretty. They actually tasted great! The ship was a little dated as it sailed on it's maiden cruise in 2004. But I wasn't there for the ship. It was all about the ports. First stopwas Nassua, Bahamas and Royal Carribeans private beach. I was on the fence about this at first, but so glad that we opted to do it. The food there wasn't as good as the ship, but was adequate. I will say that the drinks seem to be watered down. But I offer no proof of that, only that for the amount that I consumed, I would think that I would find it difficult to walk. I will definitely choose this cruiseline again. Very soon.
We really enjoyed our cruise, especially considering the affordable price. Jewel of the seas is an older ship, so it doesn't have the amenities and grand scale of the newer ships, but for our yearly girls trip, it was perfect. We loved not having to walk miles to get from one end of the boat to the next. Cabins were nice for the price. Nothing special but we weren't in there too much. We loved the daily enterntainment like trivia and poolside contests, but the nighttime entertainment could use some work. We didn't love the tango show (although the performers were wonderful), and similarly we didn't love the adults only game shows (the presenters were more awkward than funny). The included food was fine. The upgraded restaurants were by far our best meals. Surprisingly, we liked our meal at Giovanni's better than our meal at Chop's, though both were good. I really wish there were a few more food spots (included or not) on this ship. We found the options really limited anytime the buffet was closed. We especially would've loved some more food options on the pool deck (also why is the ice cream machine so far from the pool??) Highly recommend splurging for the key vip program! We loved our perks and the farewell brunch. It was so nice not having to rush off the ship on our last day and get to luxuriate a little bit longer. The included internet and priorty boarding was also a great bonus, and in my opinion was well worth the cost. I loved our time on board, however I wouldn't recommend this ship for anyone with really young kids. I have a 2 year old, and I would not choose this ship for a trip with him because there are not a ton of play areas for little ones. There are a few smaller water slides and a splash area, but it's pretty small and tucked away. There weren't a lot of entertainment options for smaller kids either, especially compared to some of the newer ships. My son has so much energy, so a playground that's available to everyone (not just the royal babies section) is a must. With that being said, this ship is great if you're looking for an affordable trip for a group of adults. What makes this ship worth it by far is the incredible crew. Everyone was so kind, funny, and attentive. They really take the time to get to know you and your likes. The bartender at the Pit Stop, Jude, would start preparing our drinks when he saw us come in because he knew us so well by the end of the cruise. I can't say enough wonderful things about everyone we met working on the ship. Truly lovely people who do such an incredible job.
