Ship Reviews

BOOKING: We always wanted to repeat our ocean crossing on Windstar ( we had previously crossed westbound in the sailing yacht Windsurf). We got a great deal through Jess at The Cruise Line, who are the new UK General Sales Agents for Windstar with the “ beyond inclusive package” for a 16n voyage from Barbados to Amsterdam. BGI is a much easier port to reach for Brits than the usual SXM. EMBARKATION: We stayed for 3n at the Butterfly Beach hotel which was a lovely 3 star property on an expensive island. There were very limited joining instructions from Windstar. You need to show your confirmation/itinerary at the cruise point security booth and our taxi driver was able to locate the bag drop in a busy area. There was some confusion as to the process once we deposited our bags and we ended up following a non-uniformed chap (turned out to be the Ents Manager, Tim) through the maze of duty free shops, then in the rain along the harbour wall. The promised shuttle bus did not make an appearance so we arrived at the Star Pride a little bedraggled. The actual check-in was quick (only 130 guests) and took place in the main lounge and they we were escorted straight to our cabins. CABINS/SUITES: We originally booked a deck 4 Ocean View Suite with picture window which is one grade above the entry level porthole suite on deck 3. When the ship was lengthened, newer suites have the bed next to the window but we preferred the lounge area with the direct view and the bed closer to the bathroom which is easier for nocturnal visits to the lavatory in rocky weather. Speaking of which, as we have got older, we have to manage snoring, different sleeping patterns and a requirement to stretch out at night. Therefore when a 20% solo single cabin supplement was offered after booking, we took the opportunity to book a second adjacent suite. The layout allows you to shut off both cabins using the shared short corridor. We also had the choice of 1 shower and 1 bath. This was an incredibly spacious set up for the 17 days and of course much cheaper than booking one of the bigger suites. I wish more cruise companies would do offers on quieter sailings as couples, friends and family members would jump at the chance of more space at a reasonable supplement. One of us preferred a softer bed and the pre requested topper was in place. Housekeeping was performed superbly by the amazing Cristina who was a complete professional. BEYOND INCLUSIVE: This was an amazing package, better than any other cruise or land based holidays we had been on. There is very little written guidance given about the drinks package, but from our previous trip we knew nearly everything on the menu except French champagne or wines by the bottle are included. Nearly all the wines are available by the glass anyway, giving you a great chance to try something away from your normal tipple. The cocktails were superb and the choice of spirits were all top shelf. The mini bar includes everything and can be restocked to personal preference on request. All restaurants and soft drinks are included anyway. The Yacht Club has included Barista coffee and specialty teas - this made up for the coffee in the restaurants which was pretty ropey. The WiFi included 2 devices and was easy to log on and pretty good, even mid Atlantic. Finally the complimentary laundry is such a bonus and allows you to pack less and avoids doing the dreaded washing when you get home. Items were turned round in 24 hours. DINING AND BARS: It was the very last operation across Windstar of Cuadro 44, the Spanish restaurant which was incredible. We loved Candles/Veranda as we could eat outside, weather permitting with plenty of choice for breakfast and daily themed buffets. Amphora for dinner was a little more formal in style with superb service and a daily changing menu and included the fun buffet served from within the galley. We did however not like the breakfast down there as the deadlights (porthole covers) were closed and menu limited. We loved the Star Grill which was open weather permitting, both for lunch and dinner. Finally the Yacht Club was where we mainly had breakfast - the small plates were great when you already had so much food choices and the view was always beautiful. As sun worshipers, we spent most of our days on deck 8 and the staff up there looked after us so well. The ability to order included room service was fantastic on the days that you want to get in your PJs and relax. This also included the full Amphora dinner menu. ENTERTAINMENT/ACTIVITIES: Not our thing but lots to do if you wanted. Edward the violinist, was a lovely background to quiet post dinner drinks. There is no charge to use the steam room/sauna in the spa facilities OVERALL SUMMARY: As lovers of sea days this is the perfect trip for us. We had a few rocky days (but the yacht handled these extremely well) and the weather of course got cooler and windier as we approached Europe. We still managed to sit outside every day. The crew are just incredible and always greet you by name even from day 1. The other guests are seasoned transatlantic veterans (one couple were on voyage number 25) and are super friendly but happy to leave you in peace as required. With less than 50% occupancy there was so much room in an already spacious vessel. We just had one poor interaction post travel with the Miami Windstar team which slightly soured our experience, but this was promptly dealt with by our UK Agent. Overall though we thoroughly recommend this experience if you like completely relaxing and want top class service without having to dress up.

I just returned from the Panama to Costa Rica cruise through the Panama Canal. It was an excellent cruise, the ship and staff were great. The day we transited the canal, there was a very knowledgeable guide giving a commentary with all relevant history and facts all day. It was a great experience. The only complaint I had was with some of the excursions. The island hopping and snorkeling trip was awful. They use little fishing boats with no swim platform and inadequate ladder. The ladder was too short, the bottom rung just a few inches below the water line. You were supposed to somehow get your knees up onto the bottom rung and haul yourself up. They need to purchase better ladders. As well, the diving was lousy… brown rocks, murky water, nothing to see. Another excursion I took included a stop at an orchid farm. It was really hot and was at the end of a busy , strenuous morning. We all entered the greenhouse and a guide gave a lecture about the orchids however none were in blood. It was a sweaty greenhouse filled with green stems and leaves. All in all, it was a fun cruise

We sailed with Windstar Cruises in November, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we stepped onboard, it was clear this was not a typical cruise—it was refined, relaxed, and deeply personal. The small-ship experience makes all the difference: no crowds, no lines, no chaos—just open decks, ocean air, and a sense of calm that stays with you. We traveled with a group of 19 people, and the crew took absolutely incredible care of us. Their attention to detail, warmth, and genuine hospitality made every single person in our group feel seen and valued. They somehow managed to anticipate needs before we even voiced them, all while keeping the experience effortless and unpretentious. The cabins deserve special mention—beautifully designed, spacious, and exceptionally comfortable, with thoughtful storage and details that made them feel like a retreat rather than just a room. After full days enjoying the ship and ports, it was a joy to return to such a peaceful, well-appointed space. Add in outstanding food, elegant yet relaxed dining, and the luxury of anchoring off ports instead of docking in crowded terminals, and the result is something truly special. Windstar has officially spoiled us for life.

Entertainment

A day on board your Windstar ship is a day of choices, all of them good. Perhaps you’ll begin with a relaxing massage in World Spa by Windstar. Or maybe an invigorating workout in the Fitness Center. Even better, why not both? After a sumptuous lunch in Veranda, make a splash from the Watersports Platform off the ship’s stern. Everything you can think of for fun in the water is there — swimming, kayaking, sail-boarding, even water skiing. And it’s all complimentary, of course. Sun yourself on deck, take a dip in the whirlpool, then catch up on email ororder a cheese plate for your stateroom or suite. After dinner, dance to live music in the Lounge. This is your yacht, so of course you’re welcome on the Bridge, where the Captain and officers are delighted to share charts, routes, and vistas with you.

As you prepare for another amazing Windstar day, enjoy a nightcap anywhere you like — on deck, in the Lounge, or why not let us bring it to your suite or stateroom? Your day ends just as it began, blissfully.
